Deep in the pit, bile rises.
Burning as it climbs inside.
Nausea, ever present.

Semper Supersto- 5/27/2011
It is the memories, sweet, vivid, bitter memories.
Those that brush against my consciousness with piercing clarity.
They find me, deep beneath my leathered skin.
They leave me empty but for delicate pain, full of unescapable understanding.
My now wide and open eyes can contain neither fear or tears.
From that memory that your voice rings out, your hand in mine that pulls me from where I have been lost.
"Semper supersto, love. Forever and for always, fight to survive. It is what shall save us from our bindings, that which holds us fast."
Partnered so, how can I do anything but carry on, continue breathing and remember to do nothing but survive?

Dancing in the Rain- 10/11/2008
Dancing is difficult in town
and even harder in the suburbs,
but tonight I woke to rain.
So I danced for you my darling,
like we always said we would.
I danced beneath the trees
and fell upon the grass.
I drank in the whole night, sweetheart,
it brightly glowed for us.
I felt your touch
in all the droplets on my face.
And even the softest wind
was your arm around my waist.
Yet, as I celebrated,
spinning in the dark,
a pair of headlights grew.
They inquired, concerned for me,
out whirling in the rain.
I just laughed and thanked them, darling,
and sent them on their way.
They couldn't comprehend me,
or even try to understand.
Those so sheltered from the clarity
of Dancing in the Rain.

The Important Stuff
What:
Hi everyone! I'm Dakota, and if you're here, you probably already know that because, unfortunately, I'm not famous yet. I've created this blog to showcase my writing, most of which is poetry. I have a hard time calling it poetry, because it seems a little grandiose for what I do, but it's a term that people will understand best, so here it is.Why:
I decided to start posting my writing in a blog as opposed to Facebook, where it's been for a long time, because Facebook's terms of use essentially claim ownership of whatever content you post there. Obviously, that's not really something I feel great about. Despite the fact that my work isn't of an astounding quality, it's still mine and Facebook cant have it. So there.
How:
So, here is how Im going to do things. I want to be able to give some older content brought over from Facebook a place to live, so that will probably be the first order of business. Ideally, Id like everything to be in chronological order, but Im making no promises. The goal of this project is to have a dynamic portfolio of all my work and once I get a hold of some of my older notebooks, they may just end up included willy-nilly. In all likelihood though, I will note the age of the piece when I post it.
Where and When:
Here, when I feel like it, duh. :P
Thanks so much for reading! Any positive feedback or constructive criticism is always welcome and helpful.
